CLYDE — The Clyde-Green Springs Exempted Village School District will have someone new at the helm at the beginning of the school year in 2016.

On Monday night, the district’s board of education unanimously accepted the resignation of current superintendent David Stubblebine during a special meeting at the board of education’s offices.

Stubblebine’s resignation will be effective July 31, 2016.

Prior to the meeting, Stubblebine sent out an email to the faculty of the district announcing his resignation. He made copies of the message available during the special meeting.

The message read:

“Colleagues:

“I am sure many of you are wondering about the special board meeting tonight (Monday). I wanted to make you aware that I informed the Board on Nov. 2 by email and signed letter that I will not return as Superintendent when my contract expires next summer. Since superintendent searches can be a months-long endeavor, I thought the right thing to do was to tell them now. I expect the Board to begin a search in the next month or two, and I only thought it fair to let you know before this appears in print.

“I am very proud of the things we have accomplished in the last 2 1/2 years, including instituting all-day, everyday kindergarten, the 1:1 computer initiative, restoring some of the arts and beginning a STEM program, maneuvering through the opening years of OTES and the new state tests, and many, many other programs. I feel that CGS is in a leading role in academics, technology, community service, educational leadership and athletics. You are an incredible team, and I will miss working with you.

“Just like a ‘lame duck’ politician, I expect to finish the year out strong, and I expect nothing to change. We will keep moving forward to do our best for our students and the communities of Clyde and Green Springs, and keep progressing as a pillar of the community so the district is left in a good place for my successor.

“Yours in education,

“David W. Stubblebine.”

Stubblebine’s resignation comes after a year in which he’s made a few headlines.

In November 2014, Stubblebine was disciplined by the school board for policy violation after the board learned he was having a relationship with a district administrator he supervises, McPherson Middle School principal Rachel Aldrich.

By being in a relationship with an employee whom he directly supervises, Stubblebine violated Board Polices 2.02 and 3.05 which outline the superintendent’s responsibilities to the board and staff conduct.

In January 2015, Stubblebine was charged with a count of obstructing official business after allegedly refusing to cooperate with Clyde Police, in December 2014, who were called to McPherson Middle School after school official found marijuana at the school.

The case was eventually dismissed in July.

The board of education did not discuss plans for beginning the search for Stubblebine’s replacement during the public special meeting but went into executive session immediately after accepting the resignation.
