Washington D.C. bicycle travel enthusiast Colin O’Laughlin took a brief time off from his five month journey west to make a brief stopover in Clyde on April 25.
O’Laughlin seeks to discover the fabric of the nation through meeting its people and enjoying the unique wonders of the land he covers on his two-wheel escape to personal euphoria. He is keeping a blog of his trip online, as well.
He began his journey west on April 3. Twenty-two days and roughly four hundred miles later, including overcoming the Appalachian mountains and some cooler than expected spring temperatures.
“Clyde seems like a charming small town,” O’Laughlin said. “I like the friendliness of the people I have met. When I was told the Pizza House had taco pizza, I was like,’Oh, Great! I absolutely love it!”
He also enjoyed stopping at Cahill Cafe before continuing on his trip
“This place from what I can tell will grow quickly in popularity,” he said. “It (Cahill Cafe) has a warmth and feeling of being in someone’s cool home, a country type of feel!”
O’Laughlin expects to reach the west coast in August. Along the way he will consult a network from bicycle groups that will help him find a couch upon which to sleep, or other arrangements.
