CLYDE — The Clyde City of Council unanimously threw its support behind the WSOS Community Action Commission’s senior levy last Tuesday evening.

Council passed a resolution to support WSOS’s 0.5-mill replacement levy and 0.5 additional levy that will cover five years.

“We appreciate that you put the resolution on your agenda,” WSOS Community Action Commission’s Robin Richter said. “The City of Bellevue, The Village of Woodville, the Village of Gibsonburg and the City of Fremont all also put that on their agendas with the same thought of the importance of the work that’s done in our communities for seniors.

“We urge our citizens to get out and vote on Nov. 3 to continue to serve the home delivered meal program, which is the bulk of what we do, and a number of other efforts that are involved with that senior information.”

In the resolution council spelled out a number of accomplishments the WSOS senior programs have achieved recently.

Last year the organization served around 76,000 meals to seniors and transported 185 seniors on 2,800 trips to the dentist, doctor, other medical, grocery stores, banking or other essential errands. WSOS also provided 94 educational programs for seniors and provided 1029 socialization activities for senior participants.

In 2014 in Clyde alone, the group provided 15,811 meals to homebound seniors, provided 3,521 meals to seniors at the center and provided educational, socialization and health assessments to seniors at the senior center, according to the resolution.

“What a great program, when you see it spelled out like this with the simple facts,” Clyde city manager Paul Fiser said. “It kind of just nails it. Thank you for the work you do in Clyde, and I’m fully behind it.”

Clyde mayor Scott Black agreed.

“It’s something that needs to happen for the community because it’s a good thing,” he said. “I appreciate what you do, as a city, a person and the Council does too.”
