On March 30, the Clyde varsity baseball team captured their second consecutive win in the young season with a 7-3 victory at Norwalk.

The Fliers had all nine starting lineup members get at least one of the team’s 15 base hits, 14 of which were singles. Frank Sewell and Nate Gittinger each had three hits, while senior Walker Cooper added two.

Walker’s run batted in single was the game-winner in the four-run fifth when the Fliers broke open a 3-3 tie.

The Fliers opened the game with a two-run first. A walk to Tanner Davenport, a single to Frank Sewell, an error and a two-run hit by Ryan Kelley got the Flier offense going.

Norwalk quickly retaliated in the bottom of the frame. The first two batters each singled and with two Flier errors helping, the Truckers led 3-2.

The Fliers tied the contest in the third. Ryan Kelley, the team’s cleanup hitter, singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Meanwhile, left-handed sophomore hurler, Robbie Webb survived the bizarre first and settled down to throttle the Truckers for a four-inning outing.

In the top of the fifth, it seemed Norwalk could do nothing to stop the CHS offense. Seven Flier batters singled.

Walker Cooper’s base hit broke open the tie and before the Fliers put away their bats and snagged their gloves, three more runs came across the dish, giving the boys the 7-3 lead they held the rest of the game.

Davenport and Matt Baker pitched three strong innings to nail down the impressive Flier triumph.
