Clyde City Council will hold a work session on Feb. 23 to discuss the heroin and prescription drug addiction problem in Clyde and the surrounding area in council chambers at the Clyde Municipal Building at 7 p.m.

At the regular session of city council on Feb. 2, Mayor Scott Black said he had received an email from Clyde resident Richard Weber, who started a support group for heroin and prescription pain pills addicts. In the email, Weber stated he would like to speak to council about the drug addiction concern.

At Tuesday evenings regular session, council unanimously agreed to hold the work session.

“Richie has agreed to attend that meeting, so he’ll be here to explain what’s going on on his end,” Black said.

Clyde finance director and fire chief Craig Davis said he, City Manager Paul Fiser and Police Chief Bruce Gower met with Weber the previous week to discuss the problem, as well.

“I think it’s going to be a good eye opener,” Davis said. “I encourage everyone to attend.”

Council is anticipating community members from Clyde and surrounding areas will also want to attend the work session to discuss the heroin epidemic. Rather than holding the session in the conference room, as is usually done, council agreed to hold the session in council chambers in order to allow more to attend.

In addition to Weber and Clyde City Council, the Clyde Police Department will also have a representative at the session, and council members anticipate the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office to have someone in attendance as well.

The work session is open to the public, and council members are strongly encouraging all to attend.
