City Council approved a resolution to hire Jackie Hoppe as the city’s new administrator, last Tuesday night.
Hoppe will replace Sharon Smith at the position, as Smith will retire in March. Smith will help train Hoppe for the position over the next month.
Previously Hoppe, of Green Springs, worked for the Clyde-Green Spring Board of Education for 20 years.
“I want to officially welcome Jackie Hoppe to our administrative team,” Clyde city manager Paul Fiser said. “Jackie always has a smile on her face and I know she is very excited for her new career.”
The hiring of an administrative secretary is a rare thing in Clyde, according to Fiser.
“Mrs. Hoppe’s arrival will mark only the third administrative secretary in 40 years for the City of Clyde,” he said. “I know what it is like to follow someone with many years of experience at a particular job. It can be difficult at times but I believe Jackie is up for the challenge.”
In addition to the duties a the administrative secretary, council also approved a resolution appointing Hoppe as deputy clerk of council for an indefinite term.
“The deputy clerk handles the rec board, fair board, landscape committee and civil service committee,” Fiser said. “Jackie has agreed to take on this job also, as Sharon did. Having one person serving both positions does create some good continuity with things we need to do in the office.”
Clyde vice mayor Ken Dick agreed with Fiser.
“I like the idea of having the administrative secretary serve as deputy clerk,” Dick said. “It offers continuity for at least four of the city’s boards and committees.”
